Why, of course. That is why I have used Emailer for the last 6 years. 
Never used the AOL software to get AOL mail. There is "licensed" software 
inside Emailer that allows it to connect to the same phone numbers used 
by the AOL software. I have kept AOL just for the reason that I can 
travel nearly anywhere (at least in the US) and get a "toll-free" 
connnection to get/send email. If there are such numbers in other 
countries, should work there also.

The setup instructions are part of Emailer as are the .ccls needed.

As a "bonus" if you also have some version of the AOL software you can 
"surf" while on the road, but it is not needed to use Emailer.
