Nope. If I type in an address, then go back to the Recipient field and
type in a name that is a subset of a name in my address book, it
completes the name and replaces the address I've typed with the
corresponding one from the address book (even if I've deleted the end of
the name it added and left highlighted). The _only_ way I've found around
this is by adding a space. Michelle seems to have acknowledged this as a
bug they didn't have time to address before release.

Do you have an address book entry that is the same as the name you're
typing except for some additional letters at the end?

Since the unwanted portion of the name remains highlighted, I can just
use the Delete key. However, without adding a space, tabbing from that
field (or clicking anywhere else) just results in those letters being
added back in.
