This week appleisp.net changed their authorization scheme from POP (check before send) to SMTP (must authorize when sending), so of course emailer and several other old mac email clients can no longer send through them without the help of Baton Mail. Their tech support says "everybody is doing it", and I did get Baton Mail working, but I am not very happy with appleisp.
Are their any low-cost ISPs that are still friendly to emailer and are likely to stay that way?
