I believe Earthlink still uses IP authentication. AppleISP is right, everyone IS requiring authentication. But what you need to hunt for is an ISP that does IP Authentication. That form checks the IP address you are connected to and if it is in their list of OK addresses, lets you send email. If it isn't, then it boots you. I am sure there are other ISPs that still do it as well.
