I believe Earthlink still uses IP authentication.

AppleISP is right, everyone IS requiring authentication. But what you 
need to hunt for is an ISP that does IP Authentication. That form checks 
the IP address you are connected to and if it is in their list of OK 
addresses, lets you send email. If it isn't, then it boots you.

I am sure there are other ISPs that still do it as well. (for instance, I 
think AT&T does it, I base that off an experience not too long ago of 
telnetting into their SMTP server, and having it immediatly tell me to 
bugger off then close the connection... that tells me they are checking 
IPs and kicking those that don't belong).
