Unless the files were corrupted in downloading (the attachments), a simple way of getting it to open might be to get either Snitch or FileBuddy (both shareware programs you should be able to find on Version Tracker or Tucows). With them, you can modify file creator and/or filetype info so that PP Viewer thinks it's the right kind. Easier and reversible (and not as scary as mucking about with ResEdit...).
