I received an attachment that I know was created on a pc in Word. It
showed up, however, as an "AppleWorks baloon help" document. Not only
have I never even heard of such (like I know something about anything?)
but I've never seen Emailer translate a doc, less to an absurd thing such
as this. I use 2.0.3 on OS 9.2.2, and while I do have MacLinkPlus on
board, I have no applescripts or any other mechanism I am aware of to
cause a spontaneous, and erroneous translation. BTW, double clicking the
doc does causes MacLinkPlus to translate the doc. On the other hand, if
I manually drop the doc onto MacLinkPlus, thus opening its "browser", it
tells me that the doc is in fact a "dos or pc word processing document".

Any ideas how Emailer made up the erroneous icon?
