Under OS X I'd first try to use the printer without any additional driver to make sure it's not already supported (the OS X installer has at least 200MB of optional printer drivers, not sure how to get those after the initial installation). Then I'd check the vendor's site for updates (the drivers supplied in the box are usually already obsolete).
