I am setting up a G4. All was going well until I installed the software for HR deskjet 5550 drivers. On restart, everything appeared to boot properly except that the desktop never established itself - just a blue flickering screen. There was nothing to be done but a hard restart. I restarted again and same thing. I expect there is a conflict with the HP printer extensions but I could never get the computer to start with extensions off - restart with shift key down....I have had to reinstall my OS X software followed by restoring my system software (to get the Classic system in place). I am going to attempt installing the HP software again but this time want to know if anyone can tell me how to boot the system with extensions off in the event I run into the same problems....sorry for the tangential thread here but I can't imagine if I am having problems now with a printer driver installation what Claris E-mailer will be like......
