Its really just a way of getting the mail out of your way until you feel
like dealing with it.

At least for me (I'll refrain from giving Psych examples, because I so
badly botched the last one)... its much easier for me to scan a folder of
known junk, looking for the potential good stuff... then it is for me to
scan a folder of unknown mail, looking for the good and bad.

Also, by rooting things to a spam folder, I just feel less annoyed. My
inbox doesn't fill up with a bunch of junk making me have to think and
weed my way thru my morning mail. Instead all the aledged junk goes to a
spam folder, where after I have read all my good mail, I can take a quick
look to see if something got miss filed.

And to me, that just feels more productive, and far less annoying.

Of course, ever since I started blacklisting and filtering at the server
level, my spam has dropped to near zero levels. I'm getting 2 or 3 a day
now as compared to my previous 100 or so a day (which is still VERY light
compared to some people, but it was still annoying)
