After reading all this spam stuff and looking at my increasing volume, I decided I needed to get on the bandwagon and try to do something. Someone made an offer to the list, offering to send a mail action that filtered spam and I replied asking for a copy, but never got anything. I guess thats what I get for getting sucked into expressing totally off-topic opinions on Feckless Leader, even if someone else sucked me into it.
So, even though I have an MBA, I figured I should try to overcome that handicap and learn how to create mail actions. I've created a few mail actions using the words in titles that seem to be my hottest items lately, such as pharmacy, penis, and vicodin. I've created actions that say "if subject contains" the "word in question," send it to folder titled Spam. I seem to catch every penis so far, but now and then a vicodin or pharmacy slips through. I am beginning to think that mail actions are case sensitive. Could someone confirm or deny that? My next question relates to "what the hell am I really accomplishing when I filter a post to the spam folder?" Assuming that I don't want to miss something important, I have to look at it in the spam folder rather than the in box, but I still have to look at it. Am I missing something here, or is this just a matter of getting a feeling of control? And finally, I anxiously awaiting a repy to Chis's question- >I didn't really take a good look at SpamFire the other day when I >downloaded it... but am I to understand you correctly that SpamFire >DOWNLOADS the mail, then filters it, then RESENDS it back to the SMTP >server to wait for you to collect it?!? As a subcribes to the KISS principle, I really want to find out how that works before I touch it.
