I subscribe to a freedive list with about 600 members, and it accepts nothing but plain text. The server bounces anything else. I am a frequent contributor to that list and used to play list mom, so now and then someone who is unable to post to the list because he can't manage to send plain text will get frustrated and send me something and ask me to forward to the list. The people with the biggest problem seem to be those using later versions of AOL. While I have no personal experience with it, I'm told that it takes a relatively high degree of sophistication to figure out how to make AOL send plain text, and of course many people use AOL precisely because they are not sophisticated. BTW, you might wonder why I can't easily tell them how to fix their problem if I used to play list mom, but we have a separate tech guru who handles that sort of thing. As list mom I was mostly a referee.
