This isn't an authentication problem, this was something broken on the
AOL gateway on AOL's end. I'm not sure if it has been fixed, but it might
be worth a try to see.

The Auth patch wouldn't do you any good, as it doesn't apply to AOL
accounts.

I still hang onto my AOL account just in case I ever need dialup while on
the road. Although that need is almost nil now that I run my own dialup
server that has an 800 number for access. Kind of pointless to use AOL
when I can just use myself.

But for the $5 a month I pay AOL, I hang onto it just in case (it also
helps a bit when I have clients with AOL that are having some kind of
problem). I know, this means I could test the AOL connection in Emailer
myself. But that would mean I'd have to log onto AOL, delete all my
exising junk email, then send myself a test and try it. I'm not willing
to just log onto AOL without cleaning out the inbox yet, because then I
have to wait for the 200+ messages to download. And I pay per minute
after the first 2 hours of use a month (and the Emailer/AOL connection is
counted towards that 2 hours... if you use AOL's IMAP gateway, or web
mail, the time is NOT counted towards the monthly hours).
