Thanks, Jean-Pierre. I am visiting Paris at present and plugged into the hotel's broadband connection. Rather than having to change any settings I simply log onto iPass's outgoing mail webpage and am then free to send email. Registration lasts 30 minutes. Very straightforward.
Your experience with airborn WiFi is interesting: a pity they did not promote the new service on your flight. That will be Boeing's Connexion system (www.connexionbyboeing.com), though there are also a couple of others undergoing trial. Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, JAL, SAS, and El Al also offer it. Looks as if the business favourite airlines (Virgin, Cathay, Emirates, BA etc) will all have it by the end of 2006.
