The problem with Apples RAID (by someone with a vested interest in 
telling you) is that if/when a problem develops, it can rally crap out, 
even losing the volume entirely. If a disk has a disk error, it stops 
mirroring to it, after a mirror rebuild failure. So you have a snapshot, 
as of course,  it doesn't tell you it failed.

There is a reason a third party can thrive against a free Apple offering. 
Remember that it is never tested on "consumer" items like FireWire, it is 
ONLY tested inside Apple on XServes and XServe RAIDs. I am not kidding. 
And try to get support if a problem develops. 

If you are going to use RAID, purchase SoftRAID, for the $129, it is a 
great value.
