Hi all,

I am trying to figure out Lyx.

I tried installing Lyx on both Windows and Ubuntu 6.06, using the
instructions found here:
http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?BeyondWiki

I encountered some problems with both.

Windows
-------

There is now, and perhaps there was at the time the wiki pages were written
/ updated, a unified installer (unofficial), which I used, and seems to
install correctly.

However, opening any EMC document (at least all that I have tried) results
in the following errors:
------------>
Using the default document class, because the class book is unknown.

Unknown layout
Layout 'Part' does not exist in textclass 'aastex'
Trying to use the default instead.
------------<

These errors do not occur on Linux (see below).

Linux - Ubuntu 6.06
-------------------
Running:
sudo apt-get install lyx latex2html
Generates the error:
Package latex2html is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only
available from another source.

I manually downloaded latex2html and was able to use all the defaults for
make / install. Once installed, running:
sudo apt-get install lyx
Then did successfully install Lyx.

The question is, am I doing something wrong, or does the wiki documentation
need to be updated? I can go in and update it, but I am not sure I have the
process correct, and don't know what generates the errors I listed above
with Windows. Is there something further I should have downloaded, since it
seems like there are some missing classes?

Lastly, how does the rest of the EMC manuals (Master_Developer.lyx for
example) get linked in. Opening that file basically has the first couple of
pages to the manual, and buttons which seem to be links only to Table of
Contents, Code_notes and appendices.

Regards,
Eric
