If You are interested, Yishin's company has implemented their version of NURBS.
Quote from Yishin's email:
"Our NURBS (G6.2) is different from the original one (G5.2), which is 
bi-linear/bi-arc implementation. We can do real NURBS interpolation instead of 
separating a NURBS curve into line and arc segments."
