The last time I played with an rt patched kernel on this machine was
probably 5 years ago, so my comments are probably dated.

At that time, very few high motion video protocols worked. tvtime was DOA
for instance, as was gxine. The feel of the machine however (I wasn't
running linuxcnc on this machine then) was great, on a par with a current
kernel with the bfs patches.

Frankly, for everyday use, this 2.6.32-122-rtai kernel, while it will run
linuxcnc, is for normal uses a steaming pile of crap. The cpu scheduler
thinks email is something it will do when it gets damned good an ready.
And it usually isn't ready. And I do a lot of "swapoff -a;swapon -a"'s in
between reboots just to keep kmail giving me the next unread msg in less
than 20 seconds, a process it can do at 20 msgs a second when its in the
mood to give kmail the cycles it needs.

Cheers, Gene
