Can anyone recommend a motherboard that will run the standard 10.04 CD install of linuxcnc? Latency-test results need to be respectable, but software stepping ability is not a requirement.
1. This must be a motherboard I can buy today, new, with at least one standard PCI slot. 2. Graphics can be onboard, provided it doesn't cause real-time problems, or via a plug in, probably PCI-Express bus, adapter. 3. An IDE port would be a plus, but not required. 4. Inexpensive and reliable would be good too. 5. Mini-ITX is OK, provided it has the PCI slot and not PCI-E. 6. AMD is OK too, if anyone's got experience there. I 'm making this seemingly bizarre request because the motherboards currently used by one of my clients have become unavailable, and all the new ones similar to it are for Sandy Bridge CPUs. One unit bought for testing won't boot the 2.6.32-122 kernel and from reading the internet I understand that 2.6.35 (.37?) or later is required for Sandy Bridge systems. Changing the kernel and making a new disk image is possible, but I'd like to introduce as little change as possible right now. Of course, soon we'll have wonderful little ARM computers that we can use, but that is not yet. Close, just not today.
