This looks pretty good to me Tanay. You say in your Detailed Approach that you intend to test on a real machine. Do you have access to a CNC machine with a spindle encoder (needed for rigid tapping) or will you need help with this? There are several people on this mailing list who have this hardware and I bet would be able to do some testing for you if you asked. For writing automated test cases, I recommend adapting one of the tests in tests/motion-logger/basic/.
