Gene,
Have you explored the Tormach TTS spindle adapter?
I looked at their site but didn't see it. I do own 4 sets of collets,
and about
16 tts adapters for er32 stuff. So I'm not totally disarmed. But setting up
a new piece of pcb for an auto tl offset can be a PITA because I tend to
setup a complete job as a series of stations on the table, changing and
re-zeroing for every tool and station on the table.
Some of the time its 3 axis, some its 4 axis. A 4th A axis gets mounted
when I need to use it as a lathe, like the roughing rounding of a 2x2 stick
of hard maple when I'm making a vise kit.
My 6040, heavily rebuilt, is always a 4 axis, the 4th on it is B cuz Y
is the long
dimension when carving the threads for that vise screw.
In both the 4th axis is a 3NM stepper/servo driving a 5/1 worm, plenty
accurate
enough to carve the threads which are a 2 start buttress pattern. Printed
chucks to fit the job.
Keeps me out of the bars. ;o)>
