Important flag here; rubbing alcohol contains oil (I don't know exactly what
percentage or type). It leaves a residue if you try to use it as a cleaner. It
certainly will affect its action as a solvent. Further, it is "spiked"
(denatured) with methyl (wood) alcohol to act as a disincentive to human
consumption. (Our government doesn't care if the wood alcohol blinds or kills
you while you try to avoid the taxed ethyl alcohol!)

If you want to avoid the methyl alcohol and oil, ask the pharmacy for USP
Injectable alcohol (but I don't know what the standard concentration is).
