Seems like they can have a switch mode supply of some sorts. I would
look under digital devices in the FCC regs to see if they are exempted. If its
battery powered there wouldn't be any conducted mode tests, but switch mode
supplies can be a nasty little beast for radiation.

For safety, try UL783 (Battery Operated Flashlights and Lanterns).
I am quiet sure there are no emc requirements for such a device. Someone
else in the forum may volunteer.

Subject: EMC and safety for Head Lamp
Hello all,
I would like to know what are the applicable requirements for a head lamp
(frontal lamp) in the North America, regarding EMC and Safety matters,
knowing that :
- The lamp is used for non professional matters,
- The lamp is powered by batteries (lithium AA size), with or without a
little regulation or switching mode.
- The light is provided by LED or little lamps.
- The complete product is in contact with body (head !)
- The product is made of plastic.
Do you know is there is some requirements regarding intrinsic safety (Ex)
for this kind of product ?
Thanks a lot for your comments,
Best regards,
Pierre Selva
