This reminds me of a situation that I experienced a few years ago when tests at an OATS facility was interrupted for a short while. A regular but intermittent ambient was being picked in the receiver. The engineers explained that they had located the source as some overhead high voltage distribution lines strung between pylons some distance away and that they considered the problem to being a carrier with data being passed through the cables by the power supply company.
