After many protests about the obscurity of the  meaning of 'intrinsic'
in this context, it has been replaced by 'direct'. The improvement in
lucidity is infinitesimal.

No, that doesn't work, because things like modem cards DO require CE
marking if sold to the general pubic, but a modem card has to be
incorporated in larger equipment. 

The real situation is that no clear distinction has yet been
established.
