Some years ago I was involved with installing a vibration table in the
laboratory where I worked. This is effectively a large loudspeaker fitted
with a metal table to which items can be fixed. All this was enclosed in
a large metal housing, the whole being very heavy. In comparison to many
vibration tables, it was quite small but still needed, from memory,
several kW of power from a very high specification audio amplifier. Part
of the recommendation for use (as per manufacturers' instructions) was to
protect those with pace makers from the high magnetic fields generated
and signage to that effect was put in place. Although the table was in a
sound proof area, it could still be heard when operating, especially
above several hundred hertz.
