Dear Members, Forgive me if I do not use the correct terminology.
The IEC 60065 standard is in its 7th Edition. Individual countries synchronize their national standards to a specific version of the various standards. In this case, the country is Japan, and AFAIK they have published their national deviations to the 6th Edition of IEC 60065. I have a product that was tested and a CB Certificate and Test Report issued according to IEC 60065 7th Edition. My customer wants to know why there are no Japan deviations listed in my test report. The questions would seem to be: 1.) Are we meeting the Japan requirements if we use the 7th Edition and no deviations? 2.) Or should we be using the 6th Edition with deviations? 3.) If the answer to #2 is yes, can I have an appendix added to my CB Report to cover just the 6th Edition Japan deviations, leaving the main report done to the 7th Edition? 4.) Whatever the answers to #2 and #3 above, what is the fastest, least costly way to resolve this dilemma? One person suggested to me there are questions of how long a country has to update to the newer version of an IEC standard, that there are transitions periods, and all that stuff. I could see this going down the long road of dates that have been discussed here before. I can't remember all the acronyms, but they have to do with presumption of conformity and dates of withdrawal and all that. Don't really want to go down that road, but that may be where this all leads. So, is anyone aware of if, or when, Japan might adopt the 7th Edition of IEC 60065? Does Japan usually allow a transition period? If so, how long? Last thing I want to do (having already paid for a 7th Edition report without deviations) is to buy a 6th Edition report and have Japan adopt the 7th Edition the next week.
