Reports of responses in a wide variety of vehicles would require a rather
intense field. However, I find the following quote from the article very
intriguing:

"An MoD spokeswoman said: "We are aware of claims that the remote radar head
may be interfering with car immobilisers and we are investigating." 

Are British vehicles fitted with some kind of standardized system that can
remotely disable the vehicle? What is an "immobilizer"? An improper response
of a system like that could be the answer, since it may respond to much lower
field strengths. The illuminating radar might be causing an out-of-band
response through the immobilizer's RF port.
