Hi John and the group, How the shielding effectiveness is measured determines the value one gets. If you are trying to shield one part of a board from another, for instance in a mobile phone, the plane wave numbers that are published are not very useful for such near field conditions.
For cases such as this, I have published a very simple way to measure shielding effectiveness for close in shielding of magnetic fields. The link to my website article is: http://emcesd.com/tt080100.htm This is not a new idea, just an easy way to implement an old one. Separately, on July 14 I am giving a workshop at the University of California Santa Barbara titled "Workshop on Failure Analysis and Prevention in Electronic Circuits." All proceeds are going to benefit the University. The information on registration will be posted on the UCSB site soon. My site http://emcesd.com will link to that page. Just go to the picture of palm trees on my site.
