Kevin,

Unless a safety engineer somewhere left the private sector and developed a
course at a university, you are probably not going to find much more in the
way of courses than those 1-2 day courses presented by the labs. They tend
to be on a particular subject, such the basics of a particular product
safety standard. They are great to attend to really get going on that
particular subject matter, but if you don't have a bit of working safety
knowledge before going into those courses, the subject matter might go right
over your head. I have seen it go over the heads of a lot of new employees
who took them too soon after being hired.

On-the-job training and mentorship/apprenticeship seems to be the way most
learn about product safety.

It would be great if the US Consumer Product Safety Commission ran some sort
of comprehensive safety course, wouldn't it? :)

Subject: Product Safety Educational Programs

Can anyone provide me with information on Product Safety training
courses that may be available through colleges/universities or private
sector (Laboratories, manufacturers etc). I know that many laboratories
offer 1-2 day seminars, but I am interested to see if there are courses
that go into much greater depth and detail.

Thank you,

Kevin Robinson
