I would test for interferrence to cell phones in the low and the high bands.
With cell phone desense occuring at -110 dBm the field strength needed to
desense a 900 MHz cell phone is just 20 uV/m (modeling the cell phone
antenna as a dipole). Figuring on a cell phone being 1 meter away this works
out to be 7 uV/m (17 dBuV/m) at 3 meters.
And with cell phone use being an everyday occurrence when working with these
appliances it might be good to test radiated immunity to 10 v/m (a cell
phone about 1/2 meter from the appliance) in these bands.
Another potential issue concerns 2.4 and 5 GHz devices in the room or in the
house.

Derek, as you have been advised by previous email, 55014-1 and 55014-2 are
the correct standards. I would advise one other thing however. Except for
toys 55014-1 only goes to 300 MHz for emissions (disturbance power). There
was a hair dryer case that went to court (Great Britain I believe) in which
the manufacturer lost the case because they did not test to 1000 MHz for
emissions even though 55014 (which they used) did not require them to do
so. I would advise scanning radiated emissions to 1000 MHz as well.
One other item, EN 50366 (Household and similar electrical appliances -
Electromagnetic fields) which falls under the Low Voltage Directive now
requires the measurement of human exposure to electromagnetic fields for
household and similar electrical appliances. The frequency band of interest
is from 10 Hz to 400 kHz and the limits are listed in Council
Recommendation 1999/519/EC.

Guys,
I've been presented with a request for testing kitchen appliances. These
would be cookers, dishwashers, coffee pots, ovens, kettles etc. It does not
cover hand held appliances.
Is there a specific product standard for these devices now, or in the
planning stage? I'm sort of leaning to EN 55014 for emissions, but what for
immunity?
The company I'm looking into this for has received guidance from another. I
believe tests are being skipped and I didn't want them to be guided wrong:
I'd be much happier with a group concensus.
