We have two amplifiers: one which goes from 80MHz to 1GHz and a new one which
goes from 0.8 to 3GHz. Can anyone suggest where I might find a suitable switch
that would ideally be controlled by RS232/USB/IEEE 488 which would allow me to
change between amplifiers at, for example 1GHz during the test?

A manual switch would be acceptable but not ideal.

Ian:

Coax relays for 3 GHz are not rare. You can drive relays from the IEE-488 bus
with something like HP's old HP-11713A Switch Driver. You can also find
discrete interfaces for Serial & USB, quite cheaply, from hobbyist and amateur
robotics sources. Take a look at advertisers in Nuts & Volts magazine at

http://www.nutsvolts.com/

Take a look at their archive of articles at

http://www.nutsvolts.com/ftpindex.htm

See April 2007, June 2006 & June 2005 for a start.

If you want to switch the amplifier OUTPUT, the relays will be a bit
expensive. What power amplifiers do you have?
