Ian, I built a switch system using relays from Teledyne. <http://www.teledynerelays.com/pdf/coaxialswitches/CCR-38.pdf> <http://www.teledynerelays.com/rfswitch s/SwitchPdf/CCS-18_SP3T_SP6T_OpenFinal.pdf> The first is for the input (low power) and the last is for the output (high power). We've had very good luck with these. We manually switch, using a serial 9 pin switchbox to switch amps (we have three). I have wired the fourth position of the switchbox for external control if we ever need it. The coax switches are mounted in a small 19" rack mount cabinet, and include directional couplers for each amp. The forward ports of the couplers also have a low power coax switch going to the power meter. For serial or GPIB remote control, I would recommend either an HP3488 or 3499 with suitable switch cards. Both are GPIB, the 3499 I think also has serial. You can even get built-in coax switch cards for these, but only for low power. The controllers and cards can be found on ebay, I have bought a couple from there. A more high-end solution would be an HP34970 which can also do data acq.
