Don, Yes, I have. These are custom mains transformers inherited from a former division of our company. I often wondered why the detail drawings required them to be CE marked. I have been removing that requirement as we specify new transformers. In fact, I would truly like to come up with a standard set of notes regarding compliance for these custom types. Compliance to what standard, designed to meet, etc. What is the proper language to use and markings to require? The end products are covered by EN 60065 / UL 60065 and the markets are world-wide. Anyone have any standard notes they would like to share?
Thanks for any and all comments. Scott Douglas Umbdenstock, Don wrote: Has anyone ever noticed a CE mark on an internal transformer? Don _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Umbdenstock, Don Sent: Monday, October 15, 2007 4:43 PM To: [email protected] Subject: FW: CE marking of transformers per LVD Dear Forum Members, <http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/electr_equipment/lv/guides/chap3.htm> http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/electr_equipment/lv/guides/chap3.htm I am struggling a bit with components – when they are excluded and when they are not. I understand, for example, that a transformer would need to be CE marked (clause 9, 4th paragraph). Does this apply to just external transformers, such as ac to ac power adapters? Or does this apply to custom made transformers to be used internally as part of an overall circuit in the same area that includes other basic components such as capacitors, resistors, and inductors? It would seem logical that it would not apply to internal transformers as these are not user replacement parts such as light bulbs or fuses, and additional assessment is required within its intended application to determine host product compliance with the harmonized standard. What is your understanding regarding the CE marking of transformers per the LVD? Thank you in advance for your assistance.
