Hi Derek,

Well, nothing is free, as my dad used to say. And there are real costs borne
by the volunteer standards-developer groups.

For example, the C63 group gets NO outside funding or sponsorship and has to
pay the IEEE for secretariat duties, meeting costs, etc. I can assure you that
the thin budget that C63 operates within has no pork.

ACIL pays the ~$2K voting fee as a benefit to the CAS members. The
“lobbying-to-lobby” that you speak of is really thin, open and--frankly,
ACIL wants comments on the ballots, drafts and other documents that we
circulate.

I’m happy to discuss this with you offline.

Hi Mike, yep I'm aware of ACIL and it's efforts, but frankly that's no use.

I have no interest in joining a group to lobby a committee to lobby another
committee. Just spelling it out like that indicates the nightmare it is.

Last time I looked I believe to be an ANSI voter cost over $2k US.

I think this is just nonsense. MHO

Cheers Derek

        Hi Derek,

ACIL (acil.org) has a standing position on ANSI C63 with a primary and
an
alternate rep; we attend every meeting, get to collaborate and vote on the
standards.

In addition, the draft versions are circulated--a sneak peek for
members.

        It’s nicely leveraged.

        Hi Ralph,

I have made many attempts to be a standards contributor: some like RTCA
have
been very receptive. Others, like just about every European and ANSI committee
have not even returned an email. A couple of phone calls faired no better.

Hardly surprising I take delight in lambasting poorly written
documents, or
documents with an agenda.

I too agree, that any document requiring compliance with by law, should
be
free.

I was just looking into the cost of buying all CISPR 16 documents, over
$3,000 US. Paper as valuable as diamonds!

        Ridiculous.

        My 10 cents worth.

<quote> Standards documents are circulated in order to get comments
from as
wide an audience as possible. The DPC stage occurs during drafting in
national, European and international arenas and is an important part of the
standards development process <unquote>

I don't believe BSI will capture the widest possible audience if those
interested need to purchase a DPC document. I think these should be free
downloads.
