It's IMO up to a holder to insure legibility. If this means transferring
documents from VMS tape storage to 120 meg floppy to CD to DVD to
holographic 3D, so be it.  Or even laser etching on metal sheets!  

Having monks copy and illuminate documents on parchment might be too
much...  Book of Kells -- Book of Dells?  Nah.
