Is there anyone out there outside a nanny-state bureaucracy who thinks that
wearing a lead smock for an X-ray session is dangerous?

If you're not ingesting it or absorbing it (especially at high velocities)
this is a silly concern, and a total waste of scarce resources - resources
which are becoming scarcer and more precarious by the moment in the EU
precisely because of this sort of thinking.
