Is there a Harmonized standard for Lithium batteries in the EU. For UL and the US Battery Cells would fall under UL 1642-Lithium Batteries. If there will also be a Battery Pack involved that it would also be UL 2054.
Of Course now I’m confused what is the difference between a Lithium Battery and a battery Pack. I’m missing the obvious I suppose but I understand there might be requirements on the cell – but isn’t a pack nothing more than a series of cells? Do battery packs incorporate safety circuits – I would presume that whether one or more battery I would have to design a circuit that safely charges, discharges, protects against over voltage, and maybe a temperature monitoring circuit etc – but again I would presume if I do that for one cell I can scale for cells that have been shrink wrapped into a pack. I;m trying to get the scope for both of these documents but stumbling Gary McInturff Reliability/Compliance Engineer Advanced Input Systems Esterline Corporation 600 West Wilbur Avenue Coeur d' Alene, Idaho 83815 Tel: 208 635 8306 Fax 208 635 8706 - This message is from the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society emc-pstc discussion list.
