Hi Pete:
I once served on the Building Committee in charge of renovating a middle
school and an elementary school in my town. I remember a lot of discussion
about the chemistry labs in the middle school.
While the actual chemistry program in the middle school had transitioned to
using fairly benign chemicals, the local building inspector still required us
to put in emergency eye wash stations and some other features typically
associated with chemistry labs. So, one place to look would be at local
building codes.
I still have a copy of the Massachusetts Building Code, so I could look
through that for you if you like.
