The advantage to a comb generator is the stability of the source in both frequency and amplitude, and its relatively high output compared to an unintentional radiator.
The disadvantage (for our purpose here) to commercial comb generator reference radiators is that they are so well defined, and at most frequencies approximate only a point source. However, I've put locally built ones inside test chassis' to evaluate shielding and it should be possible to add a comb generator to a real EUT with cables.
