>" The question needs a more general answer, and has received one." > >- I respectfully disagree: The original post asked about "networking >equipment", which are specifically mentioned in the link as "servers", >"WLAN" and "LAN". So, IMHO, the link does apply. I should have expressed the thought differently. The questions were general in nature, effectively about the 'philosophy' underlying the Directive, not specific to networking equipment. So a response addressing the philosophy seems appropriate. I really don't like the approach taken in the EICTA document. It starts with text about '(soft) switches', which is near the middle of the subject in any logical treatment. Then, after some lists terminating in 'etc.', which leave the reader in limbo as to what is 'in' and what is 'out', it deals with real mains switches by means of a way-out discussion about power loss in insulation resistance and dielectric losses, quite insignificant in practice, and a legalistic approach to the term 'zero power'. I would start with the implications of providing a proper mains switch, then go on to true 'stand-by' and then to higher-power operating modes. And Keep IT Simple. -- OOO - Own Opinions Only.
