Hi Gary:
The predecessor to IEC 61010 was IEC 348. It is likely that
the source for insulation requirements came from that document
and were modified according to IEC 60664, which is the base
standard for insulation.
IEC 60950 attempted to follow IEC 60664, but was hindered by
tradition, so there are some (minor) differences between IEC
60950 and IEC 60664.
I would expect minor differences between IEC 61010 and IEC 60950,
but they may be such that compliance with IEC 60950 does not
assure compliance with IEC 61010.
Sit down with both standards and compare them. I expect that
you will find the insulation requirements similar. You will
need to do this for the certification if you expect to certify
your product.
Good luck,
Rich

Dear All,
I have a question about insulation requirements of the EN61010:2010
standards (clause 6).
Are the insulation requirements of EN61010 / IEC61010:2010 identical
to those found in the latest IEC60950 (2009 I believe, including all
amendments)?
Basically I need to know if I use a third party certified power supply
marked to EN60950:2009, will it meet the insulation requirements of
EN61010 (clearance, creepage, protective bonding…etc)
Maybe in a nutshell, I am wondering where the EN61010 insulation
requirements were derived from. Are they the same source as the
EN60950 requiements.
Thanks,
Gary Darnel
