I don’t know about history, but I remember testing the insulation resistance of every wire in Lower Granite Lock and Dam on the Snake River the summer of 1974. 1000 VDC. The specification called for 1 MOhm and we typically saw infinity. The whole summer we found 1 bad wire.

Can someone share the history of this teat to use DC and 500 V. The products are working on AC and test voltage is higher than normal operating voltage but much lower than the flash test. It is a trend to skip this test on production line. What are the distinct benefits for this test?
