I haven't used dialup in years, but here is the script I use for autodial 
access for many years.  Edit to suit your ISP's requirements, and make a 
starter link from whatever runlevel you normally start linux in, with a 
fairly low S number in that rc#.d directory.  It should start before your 
network does.  If the network is S10network, then make the link 
S09network etc etc.
