This may be firmly in a gray area... I installed the EMC2 system from 
the live cd. If the cd doesn't install a dialer the ubuntuforums 
probably wouldn't know about it unless it became a problem for them. 
Broadband is not available to me.  Dial up is my only option. I tried to 
update emc2  using a usb drive but that doesn't work. It needs to go on 
the web, I can't get to the web, and around we go in big circles. 
BDI-4.51 has a usable dialer (kppp). I can't find one in emc2. So, this 
is not entirely non-EMC related information.

A simple EMC2 live cd does, or does not install a dialer could be very 
useful information, and related to emc2.
