Hi Guys
Thanks very much for all the info.
I must confess that this is my first time playing with Linux so it is
all a bit new to me.
I am trying to make a solid "Industrial" controller, because as a day
job I retrofit and repair CNC machine tools. And as a result of this I
see many hard drive failures on the variety of PC based systems that I
get asked to fix. The DOS based units with the Disk-On-Chip modules are
very good and I have never had any problems with them. I have seen a
variety of methods of mounting HDD to try and eliminate the problems
with vibration. One company used to mount the HDD with a spring in each
corner and suspend the HDD like a spider in a web. So... I would like to
go the solid state route.
I know the Centroid/Ajax systems use a Compact Flash card; does anyone
know how they get around the read/write cycle issue????
Jon - Yes, the motherboard I have is a Mini-ITX board it is very compact
150mm x 150mm, it has an on board fanless processor, and it can boot
from USB.
The problem is that the install just can't seem to finish loading the
bootloader - possibly an address type of issue????????
But if the number of read/write times is limited, possibly this isn't
the best route to follow.
As a bit of a side note, I have written a small conversational
programming tool in vb.net, I will try and convert it over to Linux, I
will post the code once I have done this. I am in two minds about how
to do this, I either add all of my conversational "modules" over to CP1
mop files, or I rewrite in Realbasic or possibly try Mono to use what I
have as is....Hmmmm time will tell.
Thanks again for all the help. I will keep you posted on my progress.
Regards
Andrew - In Sunny Australia
