I bought my first machine tool this weekend, a used X2 (R8 version)! I paid $300 for the mill, a mostly-complete clamping kit, 11 R8 collets, and the worlds cheesiest vise. The mill has some minor dings on the table and there is some surface rust on the exposed metal (though none on the ways or leadscrews).
I degreased it and cleaned it up and got most of the rust off with a copper scrubby pad and WD40, then I hosed the machine down with LPS2. I know I'm supposed to use lithium grease on the ways and screws, but I didnt have any on hand. Then I made my first chips! Woo hoo! Any advise on how to get the rest of the rust off? Next comes the CNC conversion... -- Sebastian Kuzminsky Immanentize the Eschaton ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
