I tend to hack when I need a particular feature, but otherwise just usually let feature requests slide. The reason is that my motivation to produce free, open-source software is largest when I have a personal use for it (or might make some money doing it). That's probably the Achilles heel of the whole open-source movement. In any event, I will print out the HAL manual which is on the Linux CNC wiki and take a look at it. No promises, though.....
