BTW a 5 1/4" floppy step motor make a nice quadrature jogwheel input device. 200 CPR, ball bearings, a little detent torque and usually free... Just needs a dual comparator with hysteresis (LM393) to translate to TTL levels. Also with hysteresis the quadrature outputs stay put when the jogwheel is not touched.
