I must confess that I had a lot of help from my friends.  The intent of
those stalwarts was to match up EMC2 with a machining center as a proof
of ability.  Those fundamental abilities like tool change and such have
been in the software since the NIST test at General Motors but this
Mazak proved that WE, the EMC2 community could do it.

The most significant product of this retrofit is that this Mazak now has
abilities that it did not have when new.  We designed and built a
spindle encoder system, worked up software for a kludge of a spindle
controller that had been substituted for the original, and rewired most
all of the machine from the most distant screw terminals to the new
boards.  (These old Mazak machines had lots of screw terminals between
sensors and actuators and the M6 control)

BTW this machine has been moved and is going into a production operation
near Galesburg, IL.
