Rumor has it that the double-angle collet system is not nearly as
accurate as an ER system.

For new designs I would tend to go with ER, but I have no first hand
experience with this.

CAT 30 would be better, because you can use it with an automatic
changer. When I get time, I plan to make a CAT 30 spindle for my
Bridgeport. The whole head (motor, two speed belt drive, encoder,
spindle; no gear box or quill drive) will be on a slide (or rigid and
use the knee for Z), like on a bed mill, instead of a quill.
